geogebra

What is Geogebra software

GeoGebra is a free, interactive mathematics software used for learning and teaching Mathematics from primary school upto university. It combines geometry, algebra, graphing, spreadsheets, statistics, and calculus in a single tool.

What GeoGebra can do

  1. Create and manipulate geometric constructions (points, lines, circles, polygons, etc.)
  2. Plot functions and explore graphs dynamically
  3. Perform algebraic calculations linked to geometric visuals
  4. Model and explore data using spreadsheets and statistics tools
  5. Visualise calculus concepts (derivatives, integrals, slopes, etc.)
  6. Create interactive math applets for teaching or presentations

Who uses Geogebra?

Students, teachers, and anyone exploring mathematics—especially in dynamic or visual ways

Example: Pythagoras Theorem

Let us visualise Pythagoras theorem using Geogebra. We know a2 + b2 = c2 . Meaning, in a right angle triangle summation of square of two sides is equal to square of hypotenuse of the triangle.

This can be seen through following animation applet of Geogebra very clearly. Open the following file and see how this concept can be visualised using Geogebra.

For the same length of hypotenuse of the triangle (Base of triangle in this case) many combination of lengths of sides are possible.

Area of both the squares made on two sides of the right angle triangle is being accommodated inside the square of area made on hypotenuse of the triangle.

The animation helps human mind to remember the concept forever.
