  • Always positive: The square of any number is never negative.

    • Example: (−5)×(−5)=25(-5) times (-5) = 25 (still positive)
  • Ends in 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, or 9 (in base 10)

    • Example: 16, 25, 49, 64
  • Has an odd number of factors

    • Example: 36 has 9 factors → (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36)
