- In our mathematical language, everything in this universe, whether living or non-living, is called an object
- A set is a well defined collection of objects
- Well defined as we can definitely decide whether a given particular object belongs to a given collection or not
- Example : The rivers of India, Nile does not belong to this collection but river Ganga does belong to this collection

Z : Set of All Integers
Q : Set of All Rational Numbers
R : Set of All Real Numbers
Z⁺ : Set of Positive Integers
Q⁺ : Set of Positive Rational Numbers
R⁺ : Set of Positive Real Numbers
C : Set of all complex numbers
- Objects, Elements, Members of set are same terms
- Sets are denoted by capital letters – A, B, C, X, Y, Z etc.
- Elements of set are represented by small letters a, b, c, x, y, z etc.
